  • Working With Tarot To Relieve Your Anxiety

For those of us who have anxiety and depression, struggling to get through a Bad (with a capital B) day can be excruciating.  We start to spin negative thoughts in our heads: What if I said the wrong thing to my neighbor? Why don’t I feel successful? Do I pay enough attention to my kids? Was that the right way to handle that situation? I should be weeding/folding laundry/dusting. I can’t do anything right. I’m a failure….

As someone with acute anxiety, I’m familiar with the soundtrack that sometimes repeats all day. It expands and contracts according to my mood and the season, what I’ve been eating, how much stress I’m under, and for various other reasons.

When the walls start to close in on me, I’ve learned to reach out for support. Sometimes support comes in the form of a conversation with a good friend.

More often though, especially when my anxiety is crushing my social skills, I reach out to my Spirit Guides as the first wave of support to get me out of a funk. I get out my cards and have a nice conversation with my Higher Self and my Spirit Helpers.

    Create Rituals to Ease Anxiety

Making a little ritual out of connecting with your Higher Self and your cards can be super calming. I take a moment to light a white candle, get settled into a comfortable position, take a few deep breaths… really get into the moment.

Inhale deeply, filling your lungs and belly. Exhale fully, til there’s no air left. Repeat the process a few times.

Here’s my ritual for starting to work with my cards:

    • I invite Archangel Michael and my Guardian Angels to protect my space and my being, keeping out any negative influences—including my own thoughts—that would disturb my reading.
    • I ask my Spirit Guides to join me.
    • I tap out my cards and focus within myself.
    • I really get into the moment, grounding myself, focusing on my breathing and the cards helps me to stave off the peaks of my anxiety.

    Get Clear On Your Question

Then to bring a moment of clarity. I ask:

What am I stressing about? or What do I need to know about (what is stressing me out)?

    Pick ONE Card

Pick just one card—maybe two MAXIMUM—to keep the message simple and straightforward.

The cards that come up are usually quite clear in their messages and a bit cheeky, if you ask me. Yesterday, it was the Seven of Pentacles reversed. The fact that I feel like I have sowed seeds and nurtured crops and tended fields, yet I have yet to see an abundant harvest. Part of this is due to self-worth issues, I know. And part is honestly due to grit and consistency—or a lack thereof.

And part of it is sheer overwhelm; with Covid and back to school, regular mom-stuff, being an entrepreneur, and feeling like I. need. To. Do. It. All. RIGHT. NOW!! No rest for the weary here.

    OK. Message clear. Got it!

*You could stop there, especially if you need to meditate on your answer or how the card fits into your current situation.

What Can You Do To Ease Your Anxiety?

If you want to explore potential solutions or find a way to deal with your anxiety, you can ask:

What can I do about it?

    Pick just one card again.

The Page of Wands comes up to tells me that I likely have to light a little fire under my tush, first. Second, focus on the things that get me excited, the things that fire me up. I have to look at things from a new and innocent perspective, finding wonder in my work again.

And I might need to take a day off to pursue ONLY those things that light my fire.

    Is There A Shadow?

I might also look at the bottom card on the deck after pulling a card for the above-mentioned questions. This would be the Shadow of the situation, or what I am avoiding.

Oh, hello Six of Wands reversed. Fear of failure, big time!

Am avoiding defeat and not looking good to myself and the others around me by not giving 100%?

After working with my cards yesterday, I came down from an upwardly anxious spiral. I got the message about what I needed to do to put a dent into what was bugging me. I also got some clarity about what my problem was to begin with.

My Higher Self spoke to me through the cards. Honestly, it was easy to decipher what the cards meant for me because they were so on point.

Now I know what the issue is, I know how to solve it. I know what I am avoiding.

    Get Out Your Tarot Journal

From here, I can get out my journal and write about exactly what I want to accomplish, getting rid of the “shoulds and the musts”, focusing on a few things that truly move ME (3 maximum for the day).

I also take a moment to recognize the negative voice in my head that makes everything so urgent and wants it all NOW! NOW! NOW! I can even talk to that voice in my journal:

    Dear Sue,

I know that you want to help us get to a better place and that is why you are scared that if I don’t do everything right now, we won’t get there. I want you to know that we have to take things one step at a time, with purpose and focus. If we do things step by step, we’re less likely to trip and fall and more likely to really feel good about what we’ve achieved. It will also help us to do better work, as we’ll be much more mindful of the work we do. Thank you for caring so much.

    With love,
    Sue

When you are facing life with anxiety and/or depression, tarot can be an excellent tool to use to really take a moment to get in touch with your Higher Self.

Don’t overcomplicate things. Just pull one card at a time.

Get your journal out and write a summary note to yourself based on the cards you pull… and enjoy the moment. Breathing. Connecting. Focusing.

    Conclusion

The practice of working with tarot can bring you into a much calmer, more connected state of mind. If you are spiraling out on a bad day, working with cards can quickly show you what the root of your issue is and how to resolve it. After you sort out the details, you can return to your life with a focused plan and a little more peace and calmness in your life.

  • Choose A Pair – Tarot and Oracle Pick For The Week of April 27, 2020

    Hello, my Dear!

I hope you and yours are content and healthy!

The flowers in nature and in my garden are starting to bloom and it’s really helping my mood. My friend Helena was talking about lazy gardening—that sounds like a plan to me! It’s basically finding out what edible weeds and plants grow native in your area and setting them up in your garden so they grow without too much watering and fuss. That perfect for my level of time and attention!

Focusing on nature has really helped me get through the quarantine. I’m lucky enough to have a yard and even a river and forest near me. Plus, we live in the BOONIES, so we can take long walks and maintain social distancing cause there just isn’t anyone else around!

I bought a few flower and herb based decks so that I can kind of use them as flashcards. I thought it would be fun to use them for my pick-a-card reading this week.

I used the Herbal Tarot by Michael Tierra and Candis Cantin and the Botanical Inspirations Oracle Deck by Lynn Araujo. The decks are both published by US Games, Inc.

    Go ahead! Pick a pile!

    Which duo did you choose?

    Here’s the reveal:

    Left:

    The Magician + Sweet William

You can achieve anything your heart desires with a positive attitude and a smile. When you combine the potential of the Magician with the simple message, Just Smile, from the Sweet William, you know that your smile and attitude are the keys to your success!

    Center:

The Four of Swords Reversed + Forget-Me-Nots

I’ve been seeing a lot of Forget-Me-Nots on my walks lately.

Make the effort to be remembered/memorable. If you sit and rest for too long, you might miss your opportunity. And why not take a trip down memory lane by going through your photos this week? The get up and go of the Four of Swords reversed added to the nostalgia of the Forget-Me-Nots is sure to send you on a trip down Memory Lane.

    Right:

The Medicine Wheel (Wheel of Fortune) + Crocus

It’s time to move forward in your life to places and spaces that bring you more happiness. The Medicine Wheel shows that you need to help Fate move you forward—and it’s time—and Crocus, one of the earliest blooming flowers of the year, shows that the sun is coming again and joy can be a bigger part of your life.

Did your message resonate? I’d love to hear if the messages the plants brought forth today struck a chord with you.

I wish you all the best!
    Sue

  • This Week’s Choose A Card Tarot Reading

Ready to see what’s in store for you for the week of October 22, 2018?

Choose a tarot card – 1, 2, or 3, and then watch the video to see what your tarot message for the week is.

Card 1 is the King of Swords. This can relate to a mature man who is intellectually and analytically driven. He might not be all about the heart, but he is someone you can rely on for good advice, especially if you need legal or medical advice. The King of Swords can also represent a situation in which you need to own your expertise and come to the table prepared, or look at things from the highest analytical perspective.

Card 2 is the Nine of Pentacles reversed. It looks like you might have given up your independence or “grounding” in the world. The term, sold out, came to mind when I was reading the cards. Things might not be so great this week in terms of feeling financially secure and able to spend money on the little luxuries in life. Hunker down and save for a rainy day.

Card 3 is Justice. This is a great omen if you have some sort of legal battle ahead of you this week. It also encourages you to look at things from a fair perspective, taking everyone’s needs into consideration and keeping balance in mind as a key theme.

I hope that this reading fits for you and helps you get through the week! Join us again next week for our weekly tarot card pick!

  • Connection to Source/My Business Diva Tarot Spread

Use this spread to connect with the Universe for messages on how to move forward

I love trying out new tarot spreads. Every new spread I work with gives me a way of connecting ideas and advice from the tarot cards that I might not yet have discovered on my own.

The spread I am doing today came from Joy Bott and was posted in the Tarot Travellors Facebook group.

Personally, I’ve been wanting to connect with my Business Diva lately. My Business Diva would be the spirit or personification of my business – or how the Universe would advise me about my business.

I loved how this spread came to life for me! I used the Rider-Waite tarot deck; it’s my workhorse right now, so it is sitting right in front of me most times.

Here’s the original reading image from the Tarot Travellors group:

Here is my spread and how I would interpret the cards.

    1) Me or the potential I can reach should I apply myself. That last part is important – the King of Pentacles. I have everything with me that I need in order to be successful.

    2) My Business Diva or the Spirit of my business. Judgment reversed. Loss of momentum and lack of follow through. Need to take steps toward finishing things. Could be moving on to the next level, but stuck in (my own self-doubts).

    3) My relationship with my Business Diva. Page of Wands. Of course – the well-spring of creative ideas and motivation. I must embrace this in order to move forward or to right the Judgment card so that I can move through the journey toward success.

    4) What do I want from my Business Diva? The World reversed. That it ISN’T done or completed. That there is still a chance that we can work together.

    5) What does my Business Diva want from me? The Hanged Man. To stop and connect with my own divine guidance and support. That I look inward for answers instead of always looking around. Contemplation instead of moving in the wrong direction.

    6) What blocks my connection to my Business Diva? The Three of Wands. When I only look to the future, I am not connecting with where I am now. While planning and goal setting can be good, it can also keep me from working in the now.

    7) What removes this blockage? Ace of Cups. Falling back in love with what I do. Focusing on the root of doing what I love. Creativity and new enthusiasm toward my work.

    8) Advice? The Empress reversed. Honestly, I see this as getting off of my butt and finally letting this baby grow outside my mind. I have to also quit being so gentle with myself and start doing the work.

    9) Optional additional clarification. The King of Cups, or moving in a direction that allows me to care for other people or uses my love of working with and helping others as the basis for my work.

    So, what do you think?

  • It’s Never Just Yes or No in Tarot…

    It isn't as simple as
Going Beyond Yes Or No To Get To The REAL Answers You Want In A Reading

As a professional reader, I get a lot of callers who are curious to find out if their exes will be calling or coming back. Most of the time, these people are calling on my instant reading line, where time is of the essence.

Even though many just want a simple “YES” or “NO” from me, I always, always, always advise that a person digs a bit deeper into the question, because sometimes a simple YES or NO isn’t as simple as that.

Consider this scenario: You’ve just broken up with your boyfriend because you caught him hiding provocative text exchanges with a co-worker. You want to know if he’s going to call you.

I get a positive card – The Magician – and you are happy that he’s going to call you. “When?” you ask. I get the Eight of Wands, implying very soon (or in 8 weeks, depending on how you read timing in your cards). You are all kinds of happy because he’s going to call… but, when he calls, it’s just to arrange the details of getting his name off of your lease.

If that’s the case, you’d likely be thrown WAY off. That’s why I advise people to take a more in-depth look at the question.

If, for example, I’d gotten the positive response about him contacting you, coupled with the Eight of Wands – then we see what you need to know about him contacting you, and I get the Ace of Pentacles, reversed, we know it isn’t to profess his undying love for you but to move on. The Two of Cups, when reversed, just emphasizes the fact that this isn’t going to lead to a rekindling of your romance.

    MorethanYesNo1
Cards from the Tarot Illuminati deck

Even though it might take a minute or two longer for me to get to the bottom of the question, you will be given information that will allow you to properly prepare for the call…

And really, if you explained to me that he was hiding provocative texts (leading me to the impression that he isn’t the most honest character), the Life Coach in me would wonder if you truly want this guy back in your life – and I’d ask you about that, too.

The same with the question: Will I see my ex soon?

I could tell you yes, you will see him soon. The cards might even show an encounter in the near future. But, will you be rekindling your romance or meeting his new girlfriend?

A few more cards and a little more time might make the difference between you getting your hopes up because you’ll see him – as in him inviting you out for a date or trying to rekindle the spark, or the encounter causing you some heartache.

In order to best answer your questions, I’ll try to direct you to the right questions to ask. I’ll want you to look inside yourself and try to connect with what is best for you. Do you need to work on letting him go so that you can move on to a new, better relationship?

Simple YES or NO questions aren’t the best for tarot, anyway. Here’s a way to expand on a simple YES or NO reading, to get more information about what is going on.

    1) Will he call-

As your advisor, I’ll try to get more answers from you a lot of times, as some cards require a bit of information to properly interpret.

I’ll ask questions related to the cards that come up, like: Is the Queen of Wands (a self-confident, self-assured, fire starter kind of person) you or is it the ex? Do you need to embody more of that energy to move your relationship to the next level? Is HE the Prince of Cups (all looking, but not much action – puppy romance or a crush from afar, reversed is a porn addiction), or is that someone who is coming into your life or the mood of the relationship?

You see, as a reader, I look to you for clues and cues about what the cards mean for your specific case in the reading. Of course, I can straight up read a spread, but your input will make it much more personalized and fitting for your situation.

I see using the cards as a way of exploring what is and the possibilities of what might be coming, not like a crystal ball to foretell a future that’s carved in stone.

I’ll ask questions. I’ll direct you to more questions. I’ll try to prepare you for what’s coming up – and that isn’t usually as simple as a yes or no.

And that’s why I recommend scheduling a longer reading. Honestly, I can do the “quicky one, two here’s your answer” kind of reading – BUT it might not cover the entirety of your situation or give you the kind of details you need.

A longer reading – at least 20 minutes – allows you to have the time to explain your situation to me. It allows me to explore your feelings and your own intuition about the situation (something the life coach in me loves to do).
