I have to admit that I’m really disappointed about Doreen Virtue’s recent blog post (A-Z List of New Age Practices To Avoid), calling everything—up to and including rainbow sparkly unicorns and statues—demonic work of the devil, and anyone who was working with angels, Reiki, drums, shamanism, yoga, MINDFULNESS… you name it, all evil according to Doreen.
Oh. My. Gods.
The weird thing is that her words in that blog post go against almost everything she taught in her classes, at least what I got from them. Parts of her list don’t even make sense, really. I mean, has Doreen ever stepped foot in a church? She says statues are evil and false idols, but every Catholic church I’ve been in in my whole life is filled with statues of Jesus, Mary, and other figures in the Christian tradition. Are we to think that churches are evil now, too?
Her teachings before she was baptized and born again in 2017 were all about acceptance, non-judgment, learning to trust your own intuition, being kind but assertive, connecting with nature. Doreen Virtue didn’t stop at teaching people how to work with her cards or respect deities from other religions, she also delved into her version of keeping yourself and your environment healthier and creating a life that was more in line with your own happiness.
I talked a bit about my thoughts about Doreen Virtue’s Conversion to Christianity here
and how the Angels Are Bigger Than Just One Person: Angel Work Post Doreen Virtue here
Personally, I enjoyed reading her books and learning about different ways of connecting with my intuition and angels with the practices she taught. What I learned by following some of what she taught and combining it with other rituals and details I learned from other sources took my spirituality to the next level. My own craft and connection with Spirit grew from my work, and I was also led to other teachers, topics, and rituals through learning about angels, ascended masters, goddesses, etc.
I won’t say that I bought everything she sold hook, line, and sinker, though. I never went vegan or believed in chem-trails. She was one of many teachers whose work I used to carve out my own spiritual path. I found Doreen’s teachings to be broad enough to allow many people to recognize and build their spiritual gifts and practices. Her work helped me take my own to the next level.
And the people I met through her community are some of the absolute best people I’ve ever had the pleasure to know! The Light Workers, Earth Angels, Tarot Readers, etc that I met were, as a whole, empathic, understanding, generous (sometimes to a fault), sensitive, forgiving, fascinating people. They’re fun and, because they’re high-vibe people, they are often kinder than most of the people I’ve met through other spaces.
So I don’t get how the people whom I met and formed bonds through Doreen Virtue’s work are demonic. Empathy, kindness, tolerance, curiosity, DIVERSITY are evil and we must change our ways immediately or face eternal damnation? Sorry. I’m not buying that.
Call me a sinner then. This girl ain’t giving up her Reiki, tarot, crystals, drum circles, magical friends, yoga, nature, and so many other things I consider sacred and fascinating because Doreen Virtue says they are from the devil. And I certainly don’t see my friends, colleagues, and peers who work with energy, self-help, and those who believe in something other than Christianity as being possessed by demons or in contact with evil entities. The people who I’ve gotten to know through the Angel Community aren’t, in my opinion, possessed by demons like Doreen Virtue asserts. They seem quite the opposite to me.
And that leads me to the reasons I am extremely disappointed about Doreen Virtue’s blog post:
1) The people I mentioned above. Some are doubting their connection to Spirit now. If Doreen was sincere at first, or if she was just in it for the money or never believed in it at all, or if she thinks it’s all satanic and demonic, what does that make them? What does that make me? What does that make their work? What does it say about mine? (I’ve removed my association with her work from my site in most places. If you find mention of it on my site, please tell me which page so I can update it.)
As I mentioned above, Light Workers—myself included—are a sensitive bunch, so having one of the most popular teachers in the community who taught us some of the methods we use to connect with Spirit or different entities call the work we do out as evil and negative causes a gut reaction. Either you think, “Wow, she’s lost her marbles,” like me and go on with life or you think, “Have I been imagining this all along? Are those entities I’ve been interacting with actually evil?”
Some people who found such comfort in their spirituality that was sometimes expanded by Doreen Virtue’s work are once again insecure and questioning what’s going on in their worlds, what they are sensing, the messages they are getting.
The loss of trust one might place in her own intuition is a great loss to me. We need MORE people honoring their own intuition and thoughts and being confident in themselves and a little focused on their own happiness, not less. We need to keep moving forward with this connection with the positive and good, not less. We don’t need to set ourselves back 50 years in the spiritual community.
2) Another thing we have to discuss is religious diversity. Not everyone is a Christian. There are other religions, other gods and deities, other belief systems in the world that should be respected and it’s good to learn about other gods and goddesses from other cultures and religions, too. Her new stance is anti-magic, anti-witch/Earth-based religion/pagan, anti-indiginous population, and xenophobic.
Did we learn nothing from the Inquisitions or from the Witch Hunts and trials? Are we going back to the time when religious freedom was banned and those who went against the teachings of the Church were shamed, outcast, tortured, and murdered?
Going from tolerance, acceptance, bringing people together and broadening their minds and knowledge bases to saying that everything that YOU don’t believe in is demonic or satanic is just disturbing, especially in today’s global environment. The world is a smaller place nowadays, and it’s better to learn about and respect people with other religious beliefs and rituals instead of condemning them. Understanding one another and having open conversations about what we believe in is how we make the world a better place. We need more tolerance, not less.
People need to be able to connect with a more earth-based religion if that’s what floats their boats. We need to be able to reconnect ties that were long ago cut for fear of being found out as a witch. We should be able to practice their own form of religion and worship our own gods.
Magic can’t go underground again. We, as a community, can’t let it.
3) Doreen Virtue is speaking from a place of fear, not love. Her whole post dripped guilt, shame, judgment, and fear. She’s looking to make people upset with her “bad, bad, bad” babble. She’s certainly not embodying the teachings of Jesus Christ as I know them. She needs to ask herself WWJD and let our own gods judge us when our time comes. Maybe she, herself, has something to be scared of. I don’t feel like I do.
So, while I do wholeheartedly think that Doreen’s spiritual path is her own, I wish she’d follow the advice she might have given before she was born again, the advice I think that Jesus, whose name she brought up over and over, would give: Promote what you love instead of bashing what you don’t. Respect everyone in your space, even if they have different beliefs. Love thy neighbor.
If Doreen doesn’t want to get a Reiki session or practice mindfulness or meditate, that’s her business, but she needs to quit calling anything SHE doesn’t believe in bad, especially people of other religions and backgrounds.
We are here to teach and to learn. Doreen did the first part well. This may be her learning part, as hard as it may be for me wrap my brain around ???
We may never know what she now needs. From what I’ve read, my sense is, it may be about finally finding her voice.
She will always be credited for her gifts to those that resonate. For that I am grateful. Let’s send her love, sounds like she needs it.
Thank you for posting!
We do need to send her love and just take the lessons from her (and any other teacher) as what they are. They are guides, but not the end all, be all.
Thank you for commenting, Kimberly!
It sounds as if Doreen just might be listening to the voice of Satan as this is not how God/Creator works. Satan certainly has not been vanquished yet.
I have been following Doreen Virtue for years and too am saddened by the “fear based” things that she is spewing out. I don’t know what has happened to her but, my hope is that she is being true to her spirit. I can’t judge nor will I. Something seems very off.
That’s what a lot of people have been saying. It’s strange to hear her speak now.
Kind regards,
Sue
She was attacked by demons same time as me. It was elite powers who warned us both to stop loving at the intent which we did. She ran in fear. I ran in shock. This has led to people in shock and lacking trust in love. What we need to do is still love intensely and still heal thousands more.
Hi JoJo,
Interesting! I agree we need to love more and trust, instead of fear and judge!
Kind regards,
Sue
Her behaviour is that of someone who has been badly bitten. She’s been psychic ally attacked as you say.
Instead of learning to draw boundaries and raise her vibration ,she has shut down completely and her ego has taken over.
It’s sad. But it’s her path. She needs prayers .
You can see the horror in her eyes.
But it happens to very psychic people and its about learning to deal with it and to raise your vibration higher.
Hi Sara,
She does need prayers. I wonder if she was psychically attacked, as you say, or if this is the result of some grand marketing scheme that others have devised for her. I know that she likely had some huge obligations with Hay House (she released like 8 courses in a year or something like that and didn’t fully support them).
Anyhow. Yep – praying for her, but moving on to work on changing the world with love!
Kind regards,
Sue
Jesus fuck stop making shite up. She didn’t find god. The IRS audited her arse for not paying taxes and questions were raised as to where all the money went in her animal rescue in Hawaii as the animals had to be removed and it shut down. She ditched the whole network most likely because the irs were starting to look at numbers of members to work out her income via their levels and year of registration from her courses. Suddenly she declared the whole thing evil. Fought with hay house to lose records and shifted into a cheaper area. I attended two courses of hers she couldn’t do readings to save herself I met some really lovely people but realised it was the reiki not her secret information that I was attracted to. She’s all about money her born again is just her new gig.
Are you sure about that, or perpetuating gossip? I only know what I do.
I met a LOAD of fabulous people at her events as well. They are the reason I write these – or helping others like them.
Thanks for your response!
Sue
I feel that I escaped the guilt of religion to alternative way of thinking only to hear that this is evil and paganism …and now Doreen is feeling guilt about her belief system because of a set of biblical beliefs!!! The interpretation of man !! Religion has caused more disharmony and hate all across all nations that I wonder how any of this displays live for humanity !!!
I agree with you, Michela. I shy away from any sort of organized religion because of the divisive dogma.
Kind regards and blessings,
Sue
I totally agree… she has become very negative after getting converted. I wonder whether it was an evil energy that influenced her or whether she was brainwashed by one of those fanatics. I saw her videos on yoga and reiki and she has totally misunderstood Hinduism which is not in essence pantheistic as the original holy scriptures claim only one god who created the brahmand ( universe). The different God forms and names are there to embody different aspects of God and a Hindu can choose to worship any of their choice. I also agree with you about Catholic churches having idols. Also she’s seeing things in absolutes… if it’s not God it has to be the devil. Can’t there be anything else? Is she so omniscient? Why can’t reiki be an energy created by God? After all, it has positive effects. I really miss the old Doreen. She has become one of those ‘Christians’ whom I used to dislike.
My feeling is she realized there is A LOT more MONEY to be made hawking Christianity than there is “New Age” Spirituality. I always felt she was all about the money and she still is.
A LOT of people feel the same, Bea. I guess we have to see how things progress in order to truly understand. Until then, we can still work with the angels and try to create as much good in the world as we can.
Kind regards,
Sue
Doreen should also change her fake name to her birth name whatever that might be since Virtue is no longer her strong suit. Doreen Opportunist #fakechristian would be more appropriate. It would be one thing is she quietly chose to become a Christian but her total betrayal of her followers and unreal Evangelical Ramblings on the evils of everything from Angels to Yoga are what really make her a cold and heartless b word. She just wants to be Paula White or Benny Hinn (those two devout Christians had an affair) and start a Christian Church so she doesn’t have to pay taxes. Apparently her vision of Jesus occurred around the time the IRS came down on her for an audit and it didn’t go too well.
I’ve heard that from a few people, Bea – that her rebirth was directly linked to tax issues. Sad, really. She was raking in the cash and must have managed it very poorly to be in such a state.
Thank you for your insight.
Sue
My take on it is she’s a very imbalanced person. She went from one extreme to another. It’s ok to take hits and pieces of what you believe and be your own person. She seems very ungrounded and extreme to me. There are parts of new age I don’t agree with and make me uncomfortable and some I think have helped me. Same with religion some parts I agree with some I feel people become to extreme. Some Christian talk to me is inspiring but I generally do nondenominational churches because the moment it gets to judge and fear based im out of there. That’s not the unconditionally loving god I know.
I am also very skeptical. I remember when she got divorced and announced on her site that due to her ex’s claim on her income, she was going to have to get more active with books, etc. Well, there are just so many books one can write about angels or new age. I read her commentary about New Age infiltrating religion, etc. and disagree with a lot of what she says. For instance I have been doing yoga for over 20 years. And I go to a Catholic Church every week. There’s no idolatry in doing poses. She’s nuts. There are also many stories about angels communicating with humans in the Bible. And comments about the gift of Prophecy. Making a decision to change your beliefs is fine, until you start condemning others for not agreeing with you. I’ve been around too many “born again” Christians who don’t practice what they preach. I have learned to observe them closely and be guarded around them.
I agree, Maria. Many of us hold ourselves to a standard that is very inclusive, forgiving, understanding and accepting. And yoga! I love it. It’s not about connecting with anything/entity except myself in my body (to me).
But, of course, sometimes even connecting with oneself seems to be a sin… in the minds of some.
Kind regards and blessings,
Sue
Agreed…. I don’t see why she couldn’t continue with her faith and include jesus… because we’re all one… like she first taught us…
Hi Sue
I just read Doreen’s recent blog post, not having been previously aware of her conversion. Mindfulness being the work of the devil or demons? Not much rationality there or in the entire post. I also noticed that all the comments for her post are in enthusiastic agreement. No dissension allowed.
I have found Doreen’s previous work very healing over the years. I had, however, noticed that she seemed, from reading her books, to be veering more and more into fantasy and maybe personal instability.
Also, each time she re-marries, she seems to have a husband that mirrors her current emotional status and beliefs.
I had already been somewhat divorcing the healing effects of her work from what I perceived her personal status to be. Now, however, it will be much harder to consider how to work with the books, card decks and CD’s that have hitherto been so special. I am not sure how much I will be able to continue to use, as I am sure many others are too.
So sad that Doreen is now in a place of fear, blame, judgement and even hostility.
At least, while Googling about her conversion after reading her post, I found your website. A distinct positive.
I couldn’t agree more and am sadly thinking of getting rid of her books which I previously held so dear. Her meditations really helped me on my spiritual path at the beginning. Now I avoid them. It’s such a shame but I won’t let it question my beliefs.
I absolutely agree! Thanks for this, Sue. I feel a little like some of us need therapy since she’s been on her new, narrow minded path. It’s a little gut wrenching. But, as you say, we can’t give in to the fear she is promoting. We light-workers must carry on our Heavenly missions!
Yes, Dena. All of this, from her first “demonization of tarot” a big blow to many who studied with her. This big list of everything is both a relief (she slid off the deep end) and worrying.
You are right also. We must carry on!
Great post, Sue. I think Doreen has gone off the rails. She doesn’t make sense and sounds irrational. I think we’ll learn later that there are mental health issues here.
Thanks, Michelle!
It is really “off”. She might be suffering from some sort of mental illness. It does seem like it.
<3
Sue
What a judgemental assertion.
Care to elaborate, Noneya?
I had the same thought. I never believed in everything she preached, some of her teachings seemed like works of a hallucinating mind, but l sensed she was a well intentioned being who had the gift of clairvoyance. I believe she had a complete mental breakdown, somehow her mind spun everything around and blamed new age for her pain. She would need psychotherapy, but her new fragmented persona would call therapy the work of the devil, too. I think ultimately, she is trying to hide from her self. I find it sad the name of Jesus is being used in this, though. But Jesus doesn’t get bothered by it, l’m sure. He understands all of us, our pain, our fears. 🙂
Yea she strikes me as mentally unstable. She’s very extreme and not grounded no matter what she was into. First the extreme in new age now the Bible. She can’t just be her own person and relax and not cling to outside things to feel like she belongs somewhere. I think there are things I believe in in both areas and that’s ok everyone is different. But the extreme in either direction is just do good and she’s shown she can’t just be balanced and not so extreme
Being a survivor of abusive energy an knowing the way it twists one I wonder what has hijacked DV, and it’s concerning but part of personal spiritual development is taking responsibility for our intention to maintain sound loving practices via the tools available. We balance light and shadow with every step. I’ve worried about using DV’s products, since she crumpled under something she was powerless against. What happened? It’s good to ask. Good to be aware of our self responsibility. To delve within our own heart of wisdom. So now I’m wary about keeping my practice clean, daily clarity practices, joy practice. Tend boundaries and don’t give away personal power. We are the ultimate gatekeeper of what comes through. Will it be love or fear? Tools are only tools and we who use them are where the power resides. DV needs us to be channels of love, and not feed the fear energy with fear responses.
I love this, Mary: We are the ultimate gatekeeper of what comes through. So true.
We need to be channels of love and light for ourselves. We all have demons to face, but we can do so from a space that is filled with love instead of one that is filled with fear.
Best to you!
Sue
Now that fits!
Which also feels to connect with continuing to “lose her voice, ie everything”.
Doreen’s son and his wife had businesses with her. Daughter-in-law has dance skills. It appeared they were doing well as younger light shiners!
She has family, unless grooming has taken that too.
Isolating is key. It ain’t her first rodeo. It is the first time possibly hostaged.
This one’s a pip! Drastically reduced rescue farm by moving to another island. Financial problems? How?
#1 in field Doreen founded and kicked butt! Developed first certification workshops to build a global community.
I can’t remember every feeling she is vain. Goofy, but fun!
Her last works felt forced, hurried.
Above info was randomly read somewhere. The conversion (?) coincides. Doreen’s parents; were they Unity ministry?
None of this fits. She friggin’ talks to Ascended Masters!
Lugh hung out with her on some jetti’s years ago, while with Farmer. Come on! Doreen’s got skills. She’s still there, it’s in her DNA.
We need to help her remember. Hopefully, lesson complete! *relating* 😉
“The harder the life, the more advanced the soul”?
I see that Doreen’s former best friend and collaborator in the angel cards, Radley Valentine is still promoting the cards and doing angel and tarot courses. I wonder how he must feel knowing that his former friend Doreen, has virtually condemned him to damnation.
I know. Radleigh was always so positive, genuine, and really warm and friendly. I hope that he’s able to just move on with his work and that this DV thing isn’t totally getting to him.
Thank you for responding!
I too am disappointed in Doreen Virtue. I had to decide what to do with her books and cards. I kept my favourites as I still believe what is in them.
I think her change of heart has to do with mental illness and perhaps a lot of guilt. She had an animal hoarding problem, which literally destroyed her.
I believe she still is gifted, yet cannot go back to her old beliefs as she literally let down thousands of people due to her financial problems. Everywhere where she goes people judge and send her negative vibes. She has gained a lot of weight as a result.
Now she relies on a new community of people, which sounds like a cult.
People do change and unexpectedly leave.
oh! The animal hoarding thing makes total sense, Kathy.
The thought that she is a part of/leading a cult is sad, but might be very true. She is charismatic and has a way of bringing people into her teachings, as we all know. I wish she was teaching more from a place of love than it seems she is. Ah well – her life, right?
Kind regards,
Sue
I am eternally grateful to Doreen for all the wonderful people I met through her, and especially you Sue.
Like you, I feel Jesus energy is all loving, all compassionate all understanding.
So is God/creator/universal energy
god is always loving all compassionate and deeply understanding
I love the insights from Neale Donald Walsh on this
and yes reading her article just iterates my belief
that love is my religion and the earth is my temple
all inclusive all understanding
it is about
that we are all one
and not good or bad …
Warm hugs
that love is my religion and the earth is my temple
all inclusive all understanding
it is about
that we are all one
and not good or bad …
Yes. Exactly!
Warm hugs to you my friend!
Doreen is A born-again not a Catholic. Born-again‘s do not get in the two statues and such like Catholics do. They are very different. I think she’s just a charlatan but hey that’s my opinion.
Ahh. I don’t think I’ve ever been in a “born again church”. It’s hard to say what she is now – that’s for sure!
Thank you for your comment!
An idol is an object of worship. Catholics don’t worship statues as if they are gods, as did the people who worshipped the golden calf. Statues in and of themselves are not wrong… Just the worship of them. God even instructed the Ark of the Covenant to be built with two angel statues in them. In the meantime, Doreen Virtue, the supposed born again following Jesus’ commandment not to remarry and live in adultery while previous husbands are still alive, is doing just that. She’s a fake Christian, who refuses to heed Jesus’ command, as many born again do. Jesus made His words very clear, but born against like to twist it. I know, I use to be one of them! I saw so much hypo rich!
Interesting comment – thank you!
Also, so much YES about cherry-picking which rules to follow and which to ignore. Seems very normal these days – but who am I to judge, you know?
Thank you!
I had really hard times when I got stabbed by Doreen right to my heart I opened to her and her previous teaching. It was her who helped me to heal from the wounds I suffered while being raised as a Christian in our family. Her new age teachings helped me so much to find my own path and my own worth. I found my life purpose and got thousands of followers on my own page thanks to her and her previous teachings. So many of us were dissapointed and shocked by what happened to her! Not the conversion, but the behavior! All those lies, subtle threatening (that we’ll end up in hell) and all that fear energy she started to spread instead of light! Most of us are highly sensitive and this whole thing triggered a lot of pain in us… and doubts about our paths.
I still follow Radleigh Valentine, Robert Reeves and other beautiful souls I found thanks to her but even though I still believe in my path, there is a bitter taste of doubts… It’s like she spoiled my vision and the way I look at things somehow. However, that “AZ list” is so ridiculous that I really think she’s psychically ill. I don’t take anything she says seriously. But what an irony that the very person who taught me most things about assertiveness and protection against narcissists became one of those I have to protect myself against.
“What an irony that the very person who taught me most things about assertiveness and protection against narcissists became one of those I have to protect myself against.”
Exactly.
It’s a thing about separating the teacher from the lesson, but it did sting so many.
I wish you the best.
Sue
Like all of you, I came to know Doreen as the angel lady. I owned and read every book she wrote. I owned and used several of her tarot card decks. I took her angel card course and eventually became a reiki master. I used crystals and gems for healing, played around with mediumship, practiced intuition/psychic abilities, practiced mindfulness and meditations. I became obsessed with affirmations and things such as the law of attraction, karma, past lives, etc. Name it I was into it.
I convinced myself that this universalism/new age had to be the answer and the truth. I fashioned God/Jesus to fit my own likings, morals, truth/reality. He literally became what I wanted Him to be. All the time I never once researched or studied, the historical evidence to find the real truth.
I became aware that the real God/Jesus is (Not) who new agers/universalists believe him to be. I lovingly and sincerely advise everyone here to research the new age/ universalism movement and where it was modeled from. The things Doreen is saying today holds truth. She is understanding things correctly. “As am I now”.
A quick summary of how I became interested in the new age movement. It began with childhood experiences with seeing what I thought must have been ghosts “dead people”. It only happened a few times. As a child, my single mom of four daughters moved around on average twice to three times a year. “Exhausting” However, I was the only one in the family having these experiences in some of the homes we lived in, not all.
Never the less, as I grew older I began searching for answers. It was so easy to do because of the number of books being sold on the subject. From Sylvia Browne – Doreen Virtue, and from so-called mediums to so-called psychics. My library of books on the topic was extensive. By the time I finished reading all these books, I realized that these psychics and mediums and authors/teachers of all sorts had (their own perspective and teaching) that held no consistency with one another. Therefore, I came out of it with zero truth and loads of confusion on who to believe and could not find a single satisfying belief.
With that said, I decided to set aside all these books and teachings and deeply, research whom “God” says he is. I’ve researched the Historical, Biblical and Systematic Theology in search of evidence that gives credibility to the Bible as being God’s Word to us all. I discovered I can no longer deny all the evidence of the Bible and the accuracy of it.
Your choice of spiritual/religious practice does make a difference in your relationship with God. Please research the false teachings in the new age movement. Pray for God to reveal himself and his truth to you. My intentions for this letter are only because I care and want all to experience God’s love which is much more real then all these new age bandaid solutions offer.
Since my journey with God, my life has changed in the most incredible ways. My anxiety/panic attacks went away. My relentless quest for truth went away, my negative experiences with the dark side went away. And all this has been replaced with the most amazing peace of mind and contentment I have ever experienced.
Lastly, I want you all to know that I am 3 months into my walk with God/Jesus and I carry no more guilt, shame, fear, self-pity, and no longer hold hatred, bitterness, anger, resentment, grudges, jealousy etc toward anyone. When you seek God and follow Jesus, all that heaviness in your heart and mind go away. I was seeking for this kind of peace and was only able to receive it once I allowed God to reveal himself to me and let him in my life, and let him change me rather than striving to change him.
Please respond with love if you desire to disagree. We can still hold respect for one another even if we have different viewpoints. God bless you and your families.

Hi Elaine,
I’m happy that you have found your own version of peace within the Christian religion and teachings. I disagree with your thoughts about the Bible and Christian based “truth” – but that’s OK. We all have to make our own relationships with the Universe and the energies around us, and with ourselves.
Thank you for your comment,
Sue
I am confused about where ultimate truth lies. God is the ultimate mystery and so unlike all cruel fear based human idealogies and fundamentalist religions
I think all religion Muslim, demonation christianity Judaism Hinduism, new age are all inventions of human egos and human weakness
I have tried them all and they seem to contain truth mixed with errors
I am a compassionate person who refuses to hurt or condemn others. I also do not involve myself in the torture and imprisonment of animals or the destruction of God’s creation.
.i think that Jesus is to be followed as well as ideas from the highest ideals of Buddhism and Jainism or any loving spiritual ideal We all have to struggle to find God and it is a lifelong quest. I and all of us must devote our lives to the pursuit of truth . I have to overlook and forgive myself for all the errors I have made along the path toward finding a relationship with the divine. I cannot condemn others who trip and fall on their difficult journey. I wish I had the truth that I could enlighten you all with but I can’t say anything for sure. I am studying the course in miracles presently and believe there are some interesting truths in it yet I feel it like the bible may contain some errors or commissions
Let’s not put our full faith in any human books or teachers. People make money writing books and running churches of all kinds. If people would be honest and admit that they have doubts about the role they play being ministers or spiritual gurus the world would be a much better place. The world is in a huge spiritual mess presently and this includes card carrying atheists
No human can or does know anything for sure. We need to question everything and yet try hard to not condemn others who live in varying degrees of ignorance. Let’s have pity on Doreen virtue and many millions like her. Being open for new truths and showing compassion for all sentient beings can’t go wrong while we all flounder around trying to understand who we are and why we are here. It’s not necessary to have a formal set of beliefs that we have been force fed by others fears and egos!!
Hi Don,
Yep. You are right – we humans don’t know and many of us are trying to figure out how to live our best lives. Kindness, humility, exploration, and tolerance are important parts of our own spiritual journeys.
Thank you for your comment!
Sue
Thank you for writing this piece. I too resonated with much of Doreen Virtue sharings of her knowledge. However it was obvious to me that she has never found her own path and always following simeone elses. I am saddened by her turn about and in my line of work delusions of demons and god are about mental illness. I appreciate listening to so many comments of sending love and continuing the parh of acdeprance and non-judgement. Again thank you for speaking your thoughts and sharing your heart.
Thank you for commenting, Alexis.
Yes, looking back it might seem like she didn’t follow her OWN path, but allowed herself to be led. Either way, like you said, we have to take a step back and look at her change as HER change as we continue on her own paths.
Kind regards,
Sue
I only heard of Doreen’s conversion a few days ago scrolling through YouTube, and i,like many,am floored and flabbergasted at her 180 turn! I have several of her books and 3 different oracle decks, which by the way i will still continue to use.It was her and Sylvia Browne that got me really into angels. It is so sad and disheatening that she is condemning her own work,as well as getting on a bullypulpit preaching fire and brimstone nonsense and having many questioning their own faith and morality! So many of these “born agains” have this elitist attitude that theirs is the only way to salvation, and any other religion or belief is “of the devil”! She believes in Jesus, but that attitude goes against everything Jesus taught about: love, acceptance, peace, and loving God! And how can something as beautiful as angels be ” of the devil” when EVERY major religion references angels?!? Something is definitely off with her,and i really feel sad for her.She states she has never been happier, but these rants make her seem bitter and angry! Whether she is mentally ill,or her born again husband forced and brainwashed her,i still send love and light to her.Its just so sad.
Hi Robert,
I totally agree – especially with what you say Jesus taught versus what she is saying. Sad, really.
Thank you for commenting!
Sue
What a disappointment she is. After she capitalized on her former beliefs… to go against that and in a completely different direction. What a hypocrite. I think she’s nuts
Some really think that she’s totally about making a buck and is doing this conversion for the market position. Sad, really. One has to wonder.
Kind regards and thank you for your message!
Sue
Thank you so much for this piece. I’m still scratching my head over Doreen ‘s “conversion.” When I first learned about it, I thought, “wow, okay, if that’s what is calling you, you’re on your own path, I send you blessings, etc.” Then to read her “A-Z blog.” OMG!! Oops, that’s on the list. Lol Anyway, Thank you for expressing what many of us feel about all this. ✨
The A-Z blog was something else, for sure.
Thank you for your message!
As a holder of two certificates of Doreen’s angel courses from over 10 years ago , I did turn away from doing having anything to do with angel card readings partly because I felt that something seemed off with her somehow and tried all these other alternative things . Somehow I have recently come to reconnect with my spirit guides and angels again with whom I only feel love . And I am into all the following at the moment – LOA Tapping Mindfulness Meditating Hypnosis Empowerment . So I was shocked when I saw this youtube video of Doreen denouncing her former “career” and then saw her A – Z list which includes all of the above mentioned subjects . I don’t mind people practising what they believe in but to push their beliefs onto others does make me irritated . I am sending Doreen love and light as she seems to have lost the plot and is full of fear . And I don’t mind joining you all in the after life as we all happily dance with hot feet in the fires down below ……. 🙂 Only kidding !
Hi Michele,
I totally agree it’s a fear based thing now from her. It’s so weird, too – going from love to fear is a huge jump in what I see is the wrong direction.
I wish you the best!
Sue
Thank you very much for your article, Sue. I’m so glad I found and read it. When I saw Doreen’s post on Instagram this morning (about stop using Angels cards, etc) it made me feel uneasy. I thought, how Angels, Archangels, Fairy’s etc. cards could be evil? When I hold them in my hands, I feel love and am getting good vibes. How could this be “demonic”? At first I thought her instagram account was hacked but then I read more stuff on the internet and realized it hasn’t been hacked it’s just Doreen has changed… I still believe in God, Archangels and Angels; I still will ask Angels and Archangels to guide me, and I still will use the cards. This is my faith; this is my path; this is what makes me happy and fills me with love. How love can be “demonic”?
“This is my faith; this is my path; this is what makes me happy and fills me with love. How love can be ‘demonic’?”
I so totally agree. Thank you for that validation.
With blessings,
Sue
I’m actually using her Archangel Raphael deck to send her love and healing.
I’m afraid she’s drifted into fanaticism. 🙁
I still use some of my angel decks sometimes, too. It’s sad that her message is so judgmental and fanatic these days.
Thank you for commenting.
Sue
Great post with many of my own sentiments- I too blogged about this too- https://havanawellnessstudio.com/2019/03/27/divinely-inspired-works/
because I just had to get my thoughts to virtual pen and paper.
Thank you for writing this article. Because of Doreen virtue and others inklings I felt about spirituality and religion in general, I started down a path of Angels, Reiki, crystals, mantras, LOA, etc. I am even studying shamanism now. When I learned of Doreen’s conversion, I literally cried my eyes out to my Christian-based therapist. Even she said that I have a right to my own spiritual path and that none of those beliefs made me evil or attract evil. The thing is, I was a born again Christian for years and thought that being a Christian was going to magically solve all my problems. I married a Christian man in the Christian church and everything soon fell apart in life. It was a big slap in the face. I felt like I was groveling to God all the time, to please help me and make my life better, etc. but nothing got better. And all my so called Christian friends abandoned me when I needed them because I didn’t go to church anymore as I was severely depressed. Christianity is full of humans and as long as humans are depending in external forces to help them control their behaviors and mind, the problems set in. I have found that the Vedic/Yoga sciences are much more powerful and in-depth on getting to that root of mans problem then the Bible. Not that the Bible is good, but it’s written for non-intellectuals in my opinion and is basically a bunch of parables, poems, prayers, and stories. The truth is, most people don’t choose thei religion. Where you were born, your parents, and the predominant religious culture of our environment typically determines what we religion we are. If you are born into a Muslim family in Iraq or even Turkey for example, do you honestly think you would be an outlier and convert to Christianity out of no where? I have come to believe there is no creator, only pure consciousness that expresses itself beautifully and mysteriously through the myriad of human societies and that whatever assists man in being loving, kind, inspired, free, and powerful is all that matters. I feel a sense of righteousness anger when although there are over 500 gods that humanity worships, some folks somehow things only theirs is right. If God all wanted us to be Christians and if With God All Things Are Possible, why then doesn’t Jesus just appear to all of us… but somehow Doreen is special and Jesus has appeared to her? I have a lot of devout Christian friends and family members and they have never, ever seen visions of Christ… God knows they wish they would. Heck, even I’d like to. Wouldn’t clarity be so simple and convenient? All the best to Doreen, but please can we all just live peacefully in the sea of diversity. The derisiveness caused by religious fundamentalists is at the root of hate and violence in history and is slowly losing ground. Do what you will, but harm no one.
Hi Peggy,
I totally agree with you about so much that you said, especially this:
“…but please can we all just live peacefully in the sea of diversity.”
Isn’t that what Jesus stood for in the first place?
and this:
“…there are over 500 gods that humanity worships, some folks somehow things only theirs is right.”
We’ve come to a fork in the road, IMHO – a place where we need more inclusion, peace, and understanding – not fear mongering and exclusion. Doreen used to represent that ideology to me (mostly) – now, though, I just see her as another person acting from a place of fear and prejudice.
Kind regards,
Sue
Peggy, your comment really spoke to me. I wanted to thank you for sharing your thoughts, and compliment you on your clarity and expression. Maybe you should write a book, or blog? Just sayin’! 🙂
❤️
Today I saw her post in instagram. She said that tarot is not good and they attract demons! And if we want to know just read bibble I was like seriously?? I think she lost her mind. I love angels taror I dont thing is something bad in angels readings…Dissapointting
So many of us still love working with the angels; many of us don’t feel like the angels are evil or some entry for demons.
Thanks for commenting,
Sue
This was great. Well said.
Thank you, Heather.
Kind regards,
Sue
Who knew that empowerment and vision boards and affirmations could be a bad thing?
Being raised a Christian myself, and understanding where she is coming from, Doreen has become entangled in a form of fundamentalist Christianity known as Legalism.
Legalism does not allow you to experience anything about the life you live without filtering your experiences through a very literal and strict interpretation of the Bible. If it’s not in the Bible (as she is led to understand it) then it’s not of God. Adherents to this brand of Christianity are to base their actions on whether they are pleasing God at all times and at all costs. This form of strict authoritarian Christianity does not allow for adaptation or interpretation or seeing God’s handiwork in life if it does not measure up to established doctrine.
I would tend to think that a rather small percentage of Christians adhere to this form of intolerant belief system. Maybe 20%? The rest of Christians find themselves anywhere in between.
The most liberating day of my life was when I gave up strict adherence to a literal interpretation of the Bible and began to open my mind and heart through the writings of Camille Paglia and others. I began to doubt the Bible as the “inerrant word of God” by wondering and asking questions about the men who wrote it. No one knows who they were! And we’re supposed to think that a council in 325 A.D. has delivered to the human race everything they are to know and not question lest hellfire await you for questioning?
In this form of intolerant Christianity, simply asking questions can be an act of heresy.
Let me tell you — Asking questions is the death-knell to intolerant legalistic teachings. That is why they don’t want ANYONE going to sources other than their narrow interpretation of the Bible to get answers. They don’t want people quesitoning! They only want the Bible as your answer, no matter what the question.
It is a very sad way to live, in my opinion. She has swung in two wild directions. I hope the “pendulum” swings back to center, for her sake.
Doreen Virtue was before into very banal New Age Shit and now she’s fully into the Bible. The truth is that YOU ARE a match to demonic entities if you do tarots and stuff if you’re Not a clear channel to Source. As an Empath myself Im so happy you lost the idol who spoke falsity. The tarot cards or mediums do absolutely nothing to one’s spiritual path and it is not the way Jesus taught how to get to Source. Lose anything external and the “angels” you were talking to were probably not and even if they were its still not really useful. Learn to listen to Jesus’s words with your heart without pulling cards out of a bag.
Hi Jasmine,
Sigh. This is what I am talking about: Jesus is good, anything else is bad. There are how many billions of people in the world, and many MANY of them follow different ideologies. I’m not going to say that they are wrong or demonic or whatever. In fact, one might even point to things like the Crusades and trying to proselytize everyone being the error in judgment.
I’m open enough to read to the words of Jesus (as written by his disciples and then run through the kings through the ages – a.k.a. filtered, censored, and altered) AND a lot of other sources for the truth. I feel I am connected to Source, as you are – and I don’t necessarily need a book or the words of someone saying they are speaking for Jesus.
Thanks for your input, Jasmine.
I wish you the best.
Sue
I have to agree with you and am terribly disappointed to have read some of her lastest articles and tweets. She is posting such judgemental opinions and that to me is not walking in Christ Consciousness, it’s so far from it and she sounds so brainwashed. I grew up in Church and was taught to fear everyone else. This fear and guilt that was placed inside me took years to eradicate and I still have some it’s indoctrination. Religion never taught me Gods pure love for all. Each to their own, she just needs to stop telling everyone else how to live just because she is spell bound about the Bible being the only way. Thanks for your article, much love ❤️
Hi Melinda,
Yes, it does seem that her new work and judgment is totally against the Christ Consciousness, instead of with!!
Thank you for your comment!
Sue
First off, thank you for having this forum and comment area available to people. I learned a few things reading through the posts.
I made the mistake of viewing the January 2019 video, which left me very charged. This has definitely been the learning process, going through my own stuff regarding everything.
I didn’t find that joke very funny that someone wrote about dancing in hell with hot feet…this is some of the stuff that I have needed to sort out for myself, all of this bringing buried layers up to a head.
I find that I am feeling angry about somebody badmouthing healing practices and an entire industry with their microphone blasting it out to the world, basically throwing up on whoever is listening.
I also have needed to come to terms with where I am at, needing to revise beliefs I’ve grown up with, even looking at what Bart Ehrman has to say about the whole matter of scripture, and the politics and business practices that these were written under. Very eye opening.
I find myself angry with bully preaching, should and should not, being shoulded on, basic shame and humiliation residues.
I also question spiritual competence of this person at this point, as well as mental illness factors, all of which contribute towards destructive actions and behaviors.
Christ comes in his own way to those with an open heart.
I also wonder if it was really Christ that presented himself to her, or if she was deceived in this manner.
The Christ she describes doesn’t sound like the Christ I grew up with, and part of my childhood training was getting the opportunity to read the bible from cover to cover.
I don’t claim to be any great expert on Christ, but I know what I know, and there’s always more to learn, the bottom line is “Love one another as I have loved you”, “Love God”.
The rest of it seems entwined and quagmired in all the rest of it…does this make sense?
Needed to get this off my chest, now I get to go about my own business. I believe that Christian practices and other spiritual and religious practices, are not exclusive in nature, but inclusive. God created the entire world for everybody.
I’m wondering if one day we’ll see the Literalists/Legalists as some sort of very large cult that has finally been exposed to the light of day.
Thank you once again for this forum, and may God bless us all.
I lost interest in Doreen back in the Steven Farmer days. When her preaching on twin flames so drastically changed After they divorced I started to wonder if she was actually just snake oil. I think there are people who can channel, I’m pretty sure Doreen just believed whatever she made up in her own head. Now she made up a meeting with Jesus and freaked herself out. I also wonder what her relationship had to do with it because she always seemed to glean onto whatever her partners beliefs were and adapt them in.
Freaked herself out. LOL!yep. I know a lot of people wonder if it is snake oil. Sad, because that makes them doubt their own beliefs.
Thank you for your comment!
I am concerned that we are heading in the wrong direction. How did someone who claimed to be in tune with the universe become so intolerant? People should have the right to believe as they please without being judged. Spirituality is individual. Religion is personal. I don’t believe Jesus wants his name connected to such intolerance. Born again Christians, quite frankly, freak me out a bit. Too radical, too puritan, too unforgiving for my taste.
Disturbing how someone who claimed to be in tune with the positive in the universe is now recanting all she preached and using judgment as to her new approach. People have a right to believe as they please. Spirituality is an individual path to be followed in any way a person believes it gives them comfort. I don’t believe the Jesus I was raised to believe in would appreciate the negativity and judgment that is being spewed out by these individuals that claim they “found” him. I find people hiding their hatred behind the name of Jesus deplorable. Jesus taught love, forgiveness, and tolerance.
Let’s not blast our way back to ignorance. We should be smarter than that.
Amen, Joanne!
If Doreen wants to do an about turn and decide to renounce the things she previously so enthusiastically believed in, that’s her choice, but, to now claim that it’s all evil and demonic is just crazy. She’s not doing herself any favours.
Her religion isn’t the only one in the world, in fact paganism was around way before Christianity came along.
Why can’t she live and let live? She now believes in Jesus and the bible, but that doesn’t make her right and everyone else wrong. We are all different, and we all are entitled to our own beliefs.
To me, what’s more important is that somebody is a good, kind and caring person, whatever they might believe in, but to tell people they are demons if they don’t agree with her or what she’s now preaching doesn’t make her a kind person in my eyes.
I’m personally putting it down to the fact that she’s lost the plot, and I shall continue to use oracle cards, send reiki healing to people, and send light and love into the world!
Hi Moondew,
Yep. I agree with you 100%. Keep doing the work and let her fall off her rocker all she wants!
With kind regards and blessings,
Sue
I certainly will.
I don’t want to give her any money, but I have just bought her unicorn oracle cards.
I will use them for the highest good of my followers, and in love and light. I was so annoyed when I saw what she’s now saying about unicorns, stupid woman!
Blessings x
What is so disappointing and scary is that not only did it sting to have one of my favorite authors do a complete 180 but my fiancé just currently did a 180 as well. He says my practice in reiki are demonic, one of his idols Esther Hicks, he now believes she’s possessed by a demon. Like what?? It’s so confusing and breaks my heart. Something inside me when he goes on and on how we are all fallen and I have demons inside me…. says this with a straight face, no malice but he believes this is “truth”.
I haven’t done much research about Jesus nor do I read the Bible but…. something inside me just feels sadness what I hear Doreen and my fiancé rant on about all this stuff… something inside me says this isn’t right but who am I to prove them wrong? It just saddens me.
I’m so glad I found this blog, to be honest with the changes with my fiancé I’ve been feeling really alone and have that constant fear of that when he looks at me he sees a “sinner” or “demon worshiper”. It’s been really hard and I feel like I don’t know him anymore. After 8 years of him being my other half and best friend.
It hurts me that they think people who want to spread love and light in the world are doing satins work. Doesn’t make any sense to me.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels this way.
Blessings to you all
Amanda
I’m so sorry that you are going through that, Amanda. Your fiancé changing his opinion so drastically must hurt.
I wish you all the best. As you said, we are only trying to spread more love and light in the world. That, to me, isn’t evil at all.
Sigh.
With kind regards and blessings,
Sue
Hi Amanda, so sad to hear this about your fiancé, my first thought is that given his 180 degree about turn in thinking perhaps he is not the man you are meant to spend your life with?
Could be that there is someone else who will come into your life as your true soul mate?
Great point, Heather! I agree wholeheartedly. When your life partner changes so much, it might be a sign about what the future holds…
Indeed. Sue is right. Love and light is not evil. I am finding that these times- the turmoil in our country and in the world- this is causing people to cling with a vice grip to anything they think is steady. And the old guard Christian viewpoint has deep roots. Believing Source/God comes to us in many ways means the earth is round and not flat. Flat is the old school belief system and people are turning around to those old beliefs out of fear. The irony is they are then standing firm in a fear-based belief system. Fear causes people to retreat into an old set of beliefs that is rooted in fear. It is very circular thinking and that is why it is difficult to have a reasonable conversation with people who do this sort of about face.
Totally, DeeAnna.
It is a fear-based conversion or so it seems (or financially driven)…
Thank you for your comment!
Kind regards,
Sue
Dear Amanda, please forgive me for saying this, but as I see it, your fiancé cannot truly love you if he can turn against you now and say those hurtful words.
I believe everything happens for a reason, and maybe this is the universe’s way of letting you know he’s not the man for you?
It might be time to let go and move on lovey x
PS.
I’m a reiki therapist and all I can say is, this wonderful healing therapy comes from light and love, how can that be evil?
It helps people, and brings them comfort, how can that be wrong?
You are not evil or wrong, x
I agree with you totally. When you are working for the good of a person/that person’s highest and greatest good, how can that be evil?
Kind regards,
Sue
I didn’t use to believe in angels. To me there was God, Jesus, and our spiritual guides, the spirits of other earthlings that had evolved to beings of light and love, and were assisting us, incarnated souls that were not on the same level of evolution. I believed that these spirits, once they attained a very high level of evolution, were what we called angels. Listening to Doreen and other Hayhouse speakers, l started believing in archangels. Then Doreen renounced all of her previous work. Then she went on Radleigh Valentine’s show (l think they call that episode, “Why can’t we all be friends”) to explain her decision. I was like, it’s okay. She’s moving on a different direction but she’s respectful of others. That did have an impact on me. I would every now and then see something by her on social media – like when she says we should pray to God and God will send us angels to help us, we should not ask angels or spiritual guides for help. And then my cat, whom l always pray for, got ill. That was a blow. I was sad and vulnerable and started questioning whether whether she was right. Whether l should stop asking angels and spiritual guides, my late grandmother, for guidance. So l went to her website and saw the insane blogs where she calls everything that is self exploratory, healing and empowering as demonic. So Radleigh is serving the “devil”? So is her daughter-in-law? Denise Lynn? So was Louise Hay? Wayne Dyer? My parents who are mediums? The mediumship healings l have seen were works of the devil? So yoga is the work of the devil? NO WAY! How very convenient to profess that anyone who is a free thinker and does not believe in hell and believes God gave us power to surpass our fears and elevate ourselves is a sinner and will go to hell. How convenient to profess that anyone that believes in any representation of the Divine that does not equal to orthodox “christian” teachings is a sinner and will go to hell. That sounds a lot like manipulation and brainwashing. That sounds a lot like dictatorship. “You either are with me or you go to hell”. I wish Doreen healing. I wish Jesus will help her walk away from this fog she is immersed in. One day she might.
I’m relating my experience because l used to trust Doreen and l was influenced by her new persona in moments of pain and vulnerability. Perhaps something similar happened to your fiancé. But we are ultimately responsible for our actions and decisions. And as much as it may hurt you, Amanda, if you cannot help your fiancé, you may need to do what honours you. Much love to you and the ones dear to you.
Thank you for pointing out everything I think about her. Since I have been following Doreen for years, I was influenced a little by her new conversion to Christianity, but my gut was telling me ”she’s wrong.” I have to thank her for that article because it confirmed and reassured what I felt about her. I unfollowed her on all social media and left messages to wish her the best. Thanked her for all the wonderful work before and introduced Radleigh Valentine into my life.
I know all of this has put me through the mill, perhaps that is refining like alchemy.
There seems to be archetypes, our energy is not solely our own.
Politics are everywhere…policies.
Policy/Individual Policies/Group
I have been needing to come to terms with my own spiritual policy with all of this.
For myself, I have decided that spiritual is inclusive, all flavors, once again.
P.S. I thought the way the angel cards were treated was a bit ‘over the top’ so to speak, the way they were presented.
Cards are a tool, not something you get all fancy schmancy about, giving too much power to. The purpose is to help clarify one’s own intuitive abilities or ‘gut knowing’.
Perhaps, that’s all that was meant by this ‘idol worship’ business, the rest being extreme reactivity through the human system.
Compassion for one another includes having compassion for the reactive ones.
Just the same, because of the archetypes it is now stirring up, I do not plan on using that one card deck or having it inside my home at this time. Dowsing works, too…
Hi Kassy,
I think that she really, really marketed angels and the angel cards well – but it did get to be WAY too much in too short of a time, for sure!
And you are right about tarot being a tool. They are paper and ink in a box with pictures, at the end of the day. We are the ones holding the power and they -— when used properly — help us to connect with God and our Higher Wisdom. Perhaps that’s what people should be talking about when they talk about using tarot.
Thank you for your comment.
Sue
Thanks for your article, I feel the same way. I am grateful to Doreen’s previous work and radio show (as well as other spiritual teachers) for helping me through some difficult times and encouraging personal growth. I also don’t resonate with all of her teachings such as being vegan and other things. I stopped following her years ago, as the changes started. I am shocked that her message is now fear-based judgmental fanaticism, condemning some of my beliefs which her teachings played a part in. She seems to have attracted a demon or attachment or perhaps it is all financially motivated. I feel conflicted and confused as I look at the stack of books, cards, digital podcasts, videos, classes and memories of seeing her in person – they brought me so much hope and joy. I am not sure what I will do with them, are they tainted now? A part of me feels betrayed and regrets spending so much money and time on her products and having given them as gifts. I send her light, love and prayers and am thankful for the positive impact her old work had on my life.
Hi Kat,
I don’t think her teachings would be tainted. It’s all information that is available in many different places, so it’s not unique to her. We all make our work through our own energy.
Thank you for your comment! I hope that your work continues to be positive and hopeful.
Sue
Doreen mentions owing back taxes a lot on her blog saying money from her book sales will go to charities and back taxes. Every New Ager I know who gets rich screws up their taxes and owes. But I think she wants to be a preacher and get tax exempt status and go where the money is. Christians have more money. and I think she mentions the back taxes knowing the IRS is watching her public blog
Wow, Kathryn.
I haven’t been watching her videos anymore. Her new direction doesn’t match my path, so there is no reason for me to.
I didn’t realize that she was so far behind. It makes me sad to see that she might have mismanaged her money so badly that she’s got problems.
Thank you for your comment!
Sue
I feel you are right on target. She is a good marketer and I would not be surprised if she had her own church in a short time. Why could she not just make her decision and withdraw for a while to digest her experience which I feel she made up….sorry.
Listening to her explaining and talking about demons etc made me nauseated and felt like lies.
She should just be quiet and deal with her own demons and get healthy. She seems to be addicted to have followers and can not be quiet or alone. I am not buying her manipulations and I think it is a wake-up call. There are so many phonies in every profession and we are just tested.
Be true to yourselves !
Sue, thank you for your blog posts and your comments section. I feel like it has been therapeutic. 🙂
I haven’t been following Doreen closely over the past years, but have purchased many of her books and products, which have brought me a lot of joy and healing. I was even listening to her on Hay House Radio, way back when they first started.
After seeing, what seemed like uncharacteristic instagram posts from what I had seen before, I finally realized something was different.
After finding out about the conversion, I felt (and still feel) very heart broken. I just kept thinking “What happened to this lady?”
Authors and their teachings can be very 2 different experiences. I have gained great knowledge from people’s books and teachings, only to find out the person is, in the end, and just human, with their own faults.
Everyone’s experience is different. This is part of what I gained from her teachings. So to see someone that was so accepting of all different traditions and modalities do a 180 to absolutism and intolerance is very saddening.
For whatever reasons she went in this direction, which we may or may not know about, I hope that she is happy and is getting what she wants out of this experience. People do change. I have accepted that.
It is just very heart breaking.
I grew up Catholic, so I have experienced my share of guilt and shaming from the institution that was supposed to be guiding my faith in God. But in the end, the church was lead by people, who are in the end, just human.
I can say that I gained a lot from what Doreen shared in the past. I am finding in the end, with spiritual and new age teaching, or any knowledge sharing or philosophy, I see what resonates with me. If it does, I keep it, if not, I continue my search and learning.
Thanks again Sue for having a place for us to share.
You’re welcome, Joan. This has affected a lot of people. She influenced so many and helped them to change their lives for the better.
It’s an honor to host the conversation and give people space to work through this change.
With blessings,
Sue
I feel that the visitation itself may quite possible have come from an unsavory entity. Really-who would benefit from people who are accessing their spirituality by using their intuition, love, kindness, inclusion, “new age” practices, etc. suddenly denouncing all of it to become “Christian” – and declaring all of it “evil”? Christ’s teachings, when viewed almost (and even) literally, demonstrate his ability to access the personal power that we all have as spiritual beings, extensions of Ultimate Source and All-That-Is – God, if you will. Christ himself has even said that we all could do the things that he could do – he never put himself above others, even though he had no doubts about who he really was: a child of God.
What about all of the people who paid Doreen many thousands of dollars to become certified as Angel Practitioners, and used that certification to gain clients and build their personal “new age” business by helping others? To sow seeds of doubt among those who supported you and believed in you , possibly causing them to greatly reduce or eliminate the income that they had been generating while practicing your methods does not seem very loving, kind, or truly “Christian” to me. We need to send her some loving energy to help her heal–I believe she has withstood a psychic spiritual attack of the worst kind…
It does seem like it, doesn’t it, Annie. I agree. The peaceful, helpful service that many are offering is the opposite of evil. And really, these tirades are quite the opposite of the teachings of Jesus.
Thank you for your comment.
Kind regards,
Sue
The same time Doreen Virtue shocked the world with her comments, my friend and spiritual mentor started acting the same way. My friend and former angel medicine teacher who once gently reassured me on my spiritual journey, now spouts words such as “blasphemy ” ” witchcraft” “demon infested”. The worst part about it is that she claims that she was chosen by God to serve and fight. She tried to force me to take more healing classes and book more healing sessions that I don’t need. She claimed that i would never be a true healer and would always be beneath her. She started telling me that my psychic and reiki was evil and put me down at every chance. She acted vindictively and claimed that to collect my healing certificates I would need to spend $9,000.00 and write pages and pages of essays. She did this to only me, while telling me that I was nothing compared to her. She claimed that in thirty years I would still be nothing. I have other healer friends who were shocked by this treatment. I cut all contact with this person and feel so sad and lost. My dad also died the same time, and my mom is transitioning due to old age. I still want to believe and practice and keep my intuitive ways. I’ve been hiding in the psychic closet for over forty five years, I don’t want to end the beauty and magic that is innately in me. Thank you for your column and I thank everyone in this community.
Wow! I’m so sorry to hear that you ended up with such a horrible “teacher”. Of course, you can still do your work – the work you are meant to do – without the approval of this person.
There are a LOT of great, beautiful teachers out there helping others work with their gifts. I wish you find the perfect match.
Blessings,
Sue
Hi I’ve been doubting myself (and very confused and honestly fearful of doing what I love incase I upset god and bring in evil )…and all that I believe in since Doreen virtue started this but always had this niggling doubt that something not quite right with her ..just can’t put my finger on it ..
So thank you for writing this it’s made me feel so much better and just the message I needed
Thanks Amanda
I’m glad that you feel better after reading this, Amanda. It’s been a hard pill for many to swallow. We can only control ourselves and the things that we do/say/share. We can pray for her, but live in and create a positive, loving space for ourselves. Her fear doesn’t have tob e contagious.
With kind regards and blessings,
Sue
Great read thank you, Sue, I am glad that there are still people posting awareness and support regarding Doreen’s turn around. She let off a bomb that has caused utter devastation to millions and caused a whole collective of sensitives and empaths to now live in doubt and fear and that’s not healthy for these types of souls. Even the way she dresses now. Its like an episode from the Handmaidens tale seeing and hearing her talk and lecture. I cringe sadly. But you can only pity her in truth. Pity with compassion and hope she figures out her own crisis of faith and can heal.
In truth, when she started faltering on her journey there were many early signs in the way she started to change. I have been in this profession much longer than her, so when she arrived on the New Age scene, I was always a little worried as she flooded the New Age arena with her beliefs, products, lectures and workshops that I would say to people; ”Do not become too attached to this lady and her teachings. She is rising and will take a mighty fall taking everyone with her”
There has always been this air of insecurity and doubt in her when you saw her live or via her videos. I did a few readings on her regarding where she is at. The devil was the card that was her significator in most readings. Or it came up in the area of factors to consider. Now the devil in modern times can mean mental health issues. money issues as well as extreme fear and scam and con artists. Addiction and being possessed by something not right.
She could well be playing an elaborate hoax to gain the support of the religious and then when done, she could turn around again. People love a sob story of; rise, fall and rise again. She may make millions from this.
She may also have some severe mental health issues and has a fear the world is ending and so we must turn to God and repent.
Whatever has brought this on, I suspect she is about to launch her biggest bomb yet.
I have been in damage control since this all happened with people who know me and my work asking for my opinion and advice. All we can do is see where this avalanche will take her and her followings.
I have read in a few arenas people seeking legal action to get their money back from the workshops she did. That may cost her millions plus the emotional hurt she caused. The devil could actually be that karma has come back to bite her on the ass.
Again thank you for this article. Namaste
Thank you for your comment, Lee! I totally agree with you on so many levels. Even when I volunteered for her, I found her a little… off… Radleigh was always warm, bright, and angelic.
Now more than ever, it’s time to stand in the love and in spreading positive, hopeful, and INCLUSIVE messages. Her new way of doing things is like you said, like a scene from a dystopian movie.
I’m glad that you are lending an ear and shoulder to those who were jolted by her transformation.
With kind regards,
Sue
I am just wondering, if she is truly portraying signs of mental illness it would seem her publishers would not be signing her on so readily and with so many projects unless of course, the publishers are supporting her about face to garner the attention of the religious right-Christian readership…
Although I just noticed that her Christian books published by Hay House are available on Amazon but are not on the Hay House website… interesting.
I cannot believe that Hay House would still support her after what she did to them and all her fans – but then I suppose they would see potential ( $$$$ ) in any new things she did . As for people suing her to get money back from workshops especially her last few ones – good on them since their certificates ( and my own two certificates ) are absolutely worthless now.
Maybe all this is result of Doreen trying to reconcile all the different faces/personas she puts on over the years and failing – who knows .
Hi Michele,
The certificates might not mean anything anymore, but I have to wonder if you still learned and grew in your spiritual/psychic energies as a result of taking the courses. Personally, I know that I did and it opened pathways for me and deepened/strengthened some of my gifts. I hope that you can find some good in having taken her courses.
Kind regards,
Sue
Nice reframe!
Thank you, DeeAnna. It’s always good to shift the perspective to gratitude, right?
🙂
Yes , you are right Sue , I am grateful that I did further developed my psychic abilities at her courses . I could focus more on my gratitude than my disappointment in Doreen . At the time I was looking at youtube for “nature devas and angels” and somehow that video of Doreen’s ” how to leave the New Age ” showed up in the background and that set me off in a negative mood ! Apologies .
No apologies necessary, Michele! We’ve all been processing this in our own ways – and it has brought up a LOT of negative feelings and self-doubt for a lot of people. I’m sorry that I didn’t allow you your space to be angry about it. I hope that you can move quickly through that into your own power.
Kind regards,
Sue
Hay House dropped her last year, and she has been working actively to remove remaining inventory of her items around the world. She’s posted videos about this, including a lot of info about how her family has abandoned her and how she’s not making money.
As Radleigh once said, the teacher is not the teachings. A very good lesson to all to not become attached to a person. Don’t give your power to anyone, especially teachers/gurus.
Excellent response, Mara. I feel the same as Radleigh about the teeachings versus teacher.
Thank you for commenting!
Sue
Blessings to you all and thanks for this discussion Sue 🙂
I learned so much through Doreen and will be forever grateful for that.
I sensed something was off as they were expanding their number of animals, then moving to a larger property (all documented through Instagram)… when I knew (for me) something was really wrong was when Doreen starting “auctioning” off her clothes, jewelry, and card decks from her weekly video readings. As someone with a career history in the nonprofit world (knowing the legalities of official 501c3 organizations), this felt out of integrity to me that she & Michael were seeking “donations” to support their animals by selling items. And at that time, I wondered if ego for this huge animal ranch overtook rational financial decisions. To each their own, that was just a red flag for me, and that’s when I stopped following her.
Also, I met Doreen twice in person – once without Michael (prior to that relationship) and once with him. The time she was with Michael there just seemed to be a lot of fear in her, and I couldn’t understand it. Energetically and physically she was sort of standing behind him. I’m not blaming anyone here – just observing what I felt with her before that relationship started and after (and from only 2 interactions). Again, just what I felt/sensed.
Whatever has happened and is going on for her, I wish her truth, freedom, and fulfillment. I know she helped a lot of people (me included) in her previous professional life, and I’ll always be grateful for that.
love + light to you all 🙂
Thank you for your comment, Cindy! I didn’t follow her social media so closely, so I missed her auctioning off items from her collection. It does seem like money mismanagement, but, like you, I just don’t know.
All I know is that I did learn a lot from her books and teachings. I also got a sense something was “off” about her when I volunteered for her, but really, she did have a demanding schedule. Only she really knows the full truth.
Personally, I’d prefer to stand in love and acceptance – and magic – than in fear and condemnation.
Kind regards and blessings,
Sue
I must Thank You for taking action and writing your piece in response to what we can all read on Doreen’s website. It has been a while since I looked her up, I was confused by her postings after 2017. Tonight I looked and felt horrified! Quite shaken personally, really. So I looked up people’s responses and found yours… relief… thanks again.
I did notice in the past, when Doreen was still a free-thinking and strong woman, that she kept mentioning how she had all these husbands/partners who she tried to please and save… and through her weekly videos it was obvious her current husband was increasingly having and enforcing his influence. Also it became evident (from his sloganed T-shirts even more than his words) that he was a hard-core Christian.
So perhaps history repeating itself?
In any case, like all the rest of the contributors here, I’m left feeling most unsure about all those Doreen books in my bookcase. What are we supposed to feel?
I guess it’s time to wish her well and let her go.
I do not know Doreen personally, but her story is all too familiar. I was once a church secretary, missionary, teacher, evangelist and all around preaching type of Christian. It was my identity; I was the very core of me. I toured around the country working along side of famous speakers and musical artists to share the Gospel. I still believe in the saving grace of God; I believe in God. I believe in the Golden Rule, but I do not ascribe nor endorse to the contemporary methodology of trying to save another person’s soul or missionary work. I left the modern-day church culture long ago, but I did not leave God.
What I do know and whether or not Dorren knows this, she has wrapped herself into the teachings of manhood, not of God. Speaking to dead is biblical. Card readings is another form of Bblical prophecy, and I can go on and on. Through her previous work in the spiritual realm, she has been swooped up by churches and paraded around as “look at what we caught!”. She will soon know and realize that she is nothing more than a trophy to that culture and that has NOTHING to do with her relationship with Jesus.
In her mind, she believes she is doing the right and saving souls. Been there, done that – and pointed my fingers many times to show for it. There will come a time that Doreen will wake up and realize that her finger pointing was nothing more than biblical UNtruths and her actions are not of God. She has blinders on, and that is VERY common with new believers. I
As I always say, “I walked out of those church doors into the arms of God”
I work as a Card Reader, Psychic, Medium, Animal Communicator and Angel Communicator. I confronted her on Twitter about NOT reading the Bible and realizing that what she holds in her hands is writing of man who decided what was written, not every word that should be in there is there. Of course, she ignored my tweets to her and kept on her evangelizing. A simple research into Martin Luther of centuries ago will show you how he rewrote the (protestant) bible that is most accepted now. It was vastly different before he got his hands on it. The Bible is a guide but it is not all…cannot be all. It was written by human’s, we are not perfect beings.
I have every belief that Doreen will find her balance, not for awhile. She is too wrapped up on the culture and when that honeymoon period wears off, she will also be disgusted by the culture – but have a renewed faith in God and Jesus.
Excellent response, Charlene Laura. Seems like you know the routine all too well. As you said, though – It’s God’s place to judge us and she is likely hoping that she is doing the right thing and “saving” others. The Bible was written and rewritten by men, as you said. It, like us, is imperfect. We can only try to do our best.
With kind regards,
Sue
Hi,
I just stumbled upon this post actually looking for her $5 card sale that is on Hay House usually around this time I believe…
I agree with you, especially coming from a strict Catholic background (almost became a nun) I know how much Mary & the angels mean to me & people of religious faith.
I’m very sensitive. I’m a medium & a lightworker going through the levels of Reiki & really enjoying it. Doreen BROUGHT me here. Whether or not I bought into unicorns or anything else that didn’t spark my interest, she got me going on this beautiful spiritual path that has led me to the most AMAZING people I’ve ever met.
I just want to say I support you & this community of people are hurt but they are humanitarians, bringers of light, loving human beings that will continue on without her. I just hope that this doesn’t impact the paths of those that would have come into this community but won’t find it because she’s not there & she’s rejected it publicly.
In light & love,
Molly
As a former evangelical, this doesn’t surprise me. I just went on her website and was stunned at the change in her physical appearance, let alone the ridiculous, fear-based rantings she’s now parroting. She actually looks hollow, empty and internally dead.
By doing this she accomplished 2 things: 1) creating a new income stream from a fear-based audience and thus sustain the rest of her career; 2) her addict self gets to jump on a new bandwagon and embrace the dysfunctional emotionalism that evangelism offers. It’s yet another addiction similar to codependency. Evangelical christianity goes against the bible by teaching others to hate including themselves but they get to look self-righteous in the process. They get a major dopamine rush from this garbage.
It’s sad that she turned out to be a base opportunist but she’s only fooling herself. Evangelicalism will only turn return the emptiness she already possesses.
Hi Suzie,
I so agree with this: Evangelical Christianity goes against the bible by teaching others to hate including themselves but they get to look self-righteous in the process. Seems like Jesus would have been doing things a LOT differently!
Kind regards,
Sue
I agree with all that you said.
I tried really hard to keep an open mind while checking out Doreen’s rantings (because I respected her work) but when she brought out that “list” it convinced me that she has become a fundamentalist Christian bigot. I can’t help but wonder if someone has gotten to her head, forcing her to make that list. The list is utterly ridiculous and paranoid. I mean, unicorns?
If you wanted to scare people into becoming Christian then what would be one of the most effective ways to do it? Convert one of the most well-known new age figures and get them to do your dirty work.
I wouldn’t be surprised if she does an about-turn in the future. This whole episode could’ve been something she needed to experience.
I had to share this… Interesting! Lots of Christians, with Doreen Virtue leading the pack, think Yoga is anti-Christ. This article demonstrates the early Christian church may have had other influences. Imagine that! Christ Consciousness does not discriminate in my opinion. Deep faiths often have multiple influencers. https://www.bibhudevmisra.com/2017/11/yoga-mudras-in-orthodox-christian-art.html
Great input, DeeAnna!
The Christian church DID have a lot of outside influence. Here, in Austria, the earthy roots are very pronounced in the traditions and celebrations. It’s totally interesting to see! It’s a stream of HUMAN influence based on what’s going on with the Earth and human archetypes as well.
Love how this conversation is unfolding!
Oh My Goodness , I wondered if any one in the church could explain away those hand gestures in their religious icons / paintings !
They would probably change the subject if asked because they don’t know the answer .
Very interesting, thanks for sharing .
Dear fellow commenters
What a sad disappointment I am feeling.
So many people paid huge amounts of money for her products, courses, books etc.
Light workers are not the most wealthy of folk yet many paid thousands for a few days with her.
Then all of a sudden what you spent your hard earned money on is being thrown back in your face, with undertones and threats of being evil and the devils work.
Thats horrible.
I never really “got” Doreen Virtue. I’m glad my intuition proved correct
My spirituality is based on “Treat your neighbour as yourself” and secondly, just in case there’s any ambiguity in that – “Be Kind”
Sending love to all you guys, and keep up the good work in the light…
And to Doreen on her new path I would say “good riddance”
I think Doreen started out this path with the best of intentions. But something caused great fear and she couldn’t deal with it. I’ll pray that she finds a way to deal with the fear. I’m not about to judge her though. As someone said ‘we are here to teach and learn (..) She did the first part well (..) maybe this is the time for her to learn’
Dear friends,
If you have spent any time at all in the evangelical “community” or even in the South of the US of A, you will see that Ms. Doreen has literally just glommed onto a top tier evangelical white wash of fear and jealousy. Evangelical Christianity and I am sorry also the “Christ Consciousness” that we often hear spoken of in New Age and spiritual circles is white white white and very easily overpowered with ideas of supremacy; fear of shadow, darkness, the inner connection to source etc.
I personally found from living in the South – and hearing many back stories of people in relaxed states (I was a massage therapist). – that soooooo many people who fall into this very repressive and controlled male -identified christianity have tremendous amounts of chronic PTSD.
Images and abusive memories are deeply protected in so many people in the South, especially if folks were children in deeply Pentacostal or Evangelical churches because there is SOOOO much child abuse of all types. There is so much fear and dread. That is also why some people are so ready to arm themselves and shoot at anything that comes close to them out of this deep fear which is essentially killing them.
The need to keep the subconscious memories at bay creates this terrified way of life. These folks are scared of their own inner self because of so many buried aggressions and twisted thoughts and beliefs perpetrated by a sorry culture of fear.
These communities are deeply disturbed by their own healing processes and will at some time have to face them — but until that very distant time they control, lash out and feel extremely threatened by those who actually have peace and contentment in their own spirituality and ability to deepen into the peace and love that is. Go deep my friends. Find support and let’s know that sometimes healing hurts – but certainly so does fearful repression of the truth.
So, the Christian thing to do would be donate her profits of ‘heresy’…
That might be the Christian thing to do, but I wonder if she will…
Good point, Carolyn.
Blessings to you!
Sue
@Caroline.
Well yes exactly, its dirty money, obtained from committing devilish acts (according to DV anyway)
But we really don’t know what’s going on with Doreen.
Angels are light beings, thats all I know and all i need to know.
Keeping it simple,
Light and love
Love and light to you, Linda.
I agree that angels are light beings. That’s all many of us need to know.
Blessings,
Sue
Sue, Thanks for your post. I’ve enjoyed Doreen’s work over the years. One never knows what can happen someone’s life/mind. I know from personal experience there were moments when my brain and body chemicals were altered (post-partum) after the birth of my 2nd son. My life’s work is as a Master Teacher and guide and in those months I was sent to Psychiatrists, ‘counselors’–that would recommend exercising demons from me, and endocrinologists who couldn’t help me, I really experienced a different reality from what I knew as truth. None of this was helpful. The issue was getting my hormones right. I’m not saying this is at all Doreen, yet I do know that it’s possible to go through chapters of our lives that are so different than before. They may not make sense to us or to those around us, and they may or may not change us. I understand those that can affect our energies in a non-healthy way. Sometimes the only way back to finding ourselves or the person we are to become is through community, support and love.
You are right, Anne. So many different factors can affect our emotional and psychological health. Her shift might be caused by a number of different things. Sorry to hear that you had such bad experiences with those who were supposed to be helping you in the past. We all need loving support and community to grow into our best selves.
With kind regards and blessings,
Sue
Hi Sue, thank you for your blog. I must say I was very intrigued by Doreen’s turnaround, but, then after investigating a bit and seeing how many followers she now has on Instagram etc., she is racking in the money.
Unfortunately a lot of people start off with the right intentions but greed takes over it has happened with a lot of people in the past and will continue to happen.
I have never called myself a ‘new age’ person, as quite truthfully I have no idea what that is. I am a Reiki Master and Reiki has been around for years long before the word ‘new age’ was even thought of. I am also a psychic – this too has been around for years, my Grandmother was a psychic as well – so to call all this ‘new age’ doesn’t make sense to me.
I do believe Doreen has lost her path and we need to send her lots of love and light so she can find her way back again.
All religions have one thing in common and that is ‘love’, they don’t preach hate, fear and are not judgmental, these terms are all ‘human’ terms which have been created to make people do what the people in charge would want them to do. So nothing Christian or any other religion about that at all.
The fact that Doreen changed her appearance as well is also very troubling because that definitely doesn’t make sense.
So all in all something has happened to Doreen which I do believe has possibly not happened willing or she is doing everything from her ego, which is also not healthy, she could possibly need help from a therapist.
We will never really know what has happened so all we can do is send her LOVE.
Thanks
Karin
I totally agree with you about this, Karin: “We will never really know what has happened so all we can do is send her LOVE.” That’s the best thing to do in this situation.
With kind regards and blessings,
Sue
